A low-pressure trough passes over Idaho today bringing a cold front and lower temperatures and chance for showers and isolated thunderstorms over the Eastern Highlands. Isolated showers are possible over the Upper Snake River Plain and the Southwest Highlands. More windy conditions are forecast with south Idaho seeing winds from the northwest to southwest at 10-20 mph and gusts up to 35 mph in the afternoon. North Idaho will experience northwest winds at 5-15 mph with gusts up to 20 mph over the prairies of central Idaho.
Widespread smoke from local and regional fires continues to impact almost all of Idaho.
Windy conditions should be enough to keep surface smoke moving; however, overnight settling is likely.
HRRR-Smoke Near Surface Smoke model initialized today at 12Z (06 MDT) and valid at 6pm MDT shows high concentrations of smoke near active fires and widespread impacts across the state.
