Air quality today is forecast to be in the Good to Unhealthy range.
Today, the high-pressure ridge will begin to break down in response to an approaching shortwave trough. There is a chance for showers and thunderstorms along the Idaho border with Nevada, and shower chances will increase overnight, especially over the Magic Valley and into the Central Mountains as remnants from Kay reach the state. Isolated storms are possible over the higher elevations of the Idaho panhandle. Over south Idaho, surface winds will be from the northwest to southwest at 5-10 mph with localized gusts up to 20 mph over parts of central Idaho and the Magic Valley. Over north Idaho, surface winds will be from the northeast to west-northwest at 5-10 mph with gusts up to 15 mph. Expect higher gusts in the vicinity of thunderstorms.
A blanket of smoke from local and regional fires sits over the northern and central parts of the state with no sign of relief today or into tomorrow morning. Most of south Idaho will remain hazy through the forecast period.
