Smoke and haze; haze and smoke

Air quality is forecast to range from Moderate to Unhealthy for Sensitive Groups.

Southern Idaho will see some decrease in smoke impacts this afternoon and evening, especially within the Snake River Plain. Southwesterly flow will help conditions to improve on Thursday as well. North Idaho impacts will shift from locally high concentrations to generally lofted smoke by Thursday afternoon. Central Idaho will continue to experience the largest impacts from several smoke sources.

Smoke will lift some today but will settle into drainages this evening. Areas near fires and mountain-valley locations will experience greater smoke impacts while flat, broad, open spaces will see lofted smoke and haze with lower (but still elevated) smoke concentrations.

NOAA GOES-16 (West) True Color Daytime, multispectral Infrared Satellite at night (8:41am MDT) shows widespread smoke across all of Idaho with smoke-filled drainages across central Idaho.
