Clearing expected tomorrow except for areas downwind of east-central Idaho fires

Air quality forecasts for today are in the Good to Moderate Category with Salmon in the Unhealthy for Sensitive Groups Category.

There will be a chance for showers over the elevated terrain of the Central Mountains and Highlands surrounding the Snake River Plain tomorrow afternoon. Elsewhere, surface winds will be between 5-15 mph from the southwest with locally southeast winds over portions of the Lower and Upper Treasure Valley. Tomorrow will see gusty winds between 30-50 mph along the MT/ID border.

Smoke will continue to affect the Central Idaho Mountains the greatest today with regional smoke again tracking into the state from the west-southwest. Smoke is anticipated to slowly clear from west to east within the Snake River Plain today. This evening and into early tomorrow morning could see periods of smoke across portions of the Panhandle; however, a general statewide clearing is expected tomorrow, with the exception of those locations downwind of fires in east-central Idaho.

Video: Bluesky 4km WRF initialized 00Z 0803 (6pm 0802) and valid over the forecast period shows periods of smoke aloft from regional fires with consistent smoke over the east-central mountains.
