Air quality forecasts for today are in the Good to Unhealthy for Sensitive Groups Category.
A quasi-stationary upper-level low pressure system off the Oregon coast will continue to compete with the 4-Corners High to steer south-southwest winds and monsoon moisture into Idaho. This will bring continued hot conditions to much of the state with a chance for showers over southern Idaho, primarily west of Pocatello and over the Central Idaho Mountains specifically Lemhi County. This precipitation will shift east tomorrow. These storms have the potential to carry plenty of water, and so flooding is a possibility under slow moving storm systems. Light, terrain-driven winds will be from south-southwest to south-southeast at 2-8 mph. Conditions near thunderstorms will see gusts of 20-30 mph.
Smoke will continue to affect the
Central Idaho Mountains the greatest this afternoon around 4pm. South-southwest winds aloft will shift smoke
to the north along the Bitterroot range and north, reaching into Canada. Drainage
smoke and hazy conditions should be expected this evening over the Weippe and
Camas Prairies late tonight and tomorrow morning.
Video: 06Z HRRR-Smoke Vertically Integrated Smoke shows northerly transport of smoke towards the Canadian border today with increased pooling over the prairies of central Idaho before lifting and clearing tomorrow afternoon.
