Air Quality Summary Report REVISED-Pioneer Fire Sunday August 21, 2016

Air Quality Summary Report -  Pioneer Fire    For: Sunday, August 21, 2016

Air Resource Advisor: Tod Johnson (tod_johnson@nps.gov), ARA (T) Karen Dillman (kdillman@fs.fed.us)

FIRE, WEATHER AND SMOKE SYNOPSIS
Weather:  A cold front is moving through the area resulting in cooler temperatures and continued dry conditions. Today, winds will be S-SW  3-5 mph, with gusts up to 12 mph at ridgetops.  Relative humidity higher today forecast in the 20’s for the fire area.  Good humidity recovery again tonight which will reduce overnight fire spread and smoke production.
Fire Activity:  Today’s fire growth will continue north of Pioneerville and Highway 17 in Deadwood Canyon.  Steep terrain with the combination of upslope/up-canyon winds may result in uphill runs following inversion break this afternoon, as the fire comes into alignment with slope and gusty winds. Otherwise, similar growth to yesterday anticipated due to backing fire spread - burning with lower intensity. Burnout operations will continue as conditions permit in divisions A and B Northeast of Pioneerville.
Smoke Summary: Smoke conditions in the forecast communities were much improved yesterday. With the passing cold front and wind shift, most smoke impacts will be local although lofting and wind driven smoke will impact Stanley and valley communities to the east of Stanley. Locally, Garden Valley High School/ICP, Lowman, Centerville and Idaho City will experience higher concentrations when compared to Saturday. The Boise communities will see greater smoke impacts from the Rail fire today.
