Clearing in southern Idaho; continued impacts in North Idaho

Air quality forecasts today are in the Good to Unhealthy categories.

Smoke is anticipated to clear across southern Idaho in response to the upper level disturbance and associated cold front and showers.  North Idaho looks to continue to experience elevated readings from the Panhandle to Lewiston with the highest concentrations within the Silver Valley and Purcell Trench.  Ample smoke production is expected in southern Oregon and California today and tomorrow, but a northwest wind will keep that smoke from entering southern Idaho today. Areas in the vicinity of thunderstorms will see strong winds, lightning, and showers with hail. This provides plenty of critical fire weather.  Another round of storms is expected again tomorrow.

  1. Burley looks like another planet this morning, overcast but with an odd tint to the daylight. Air seems fine, is this just smoke that's higher up in the atmosphere? (new to tracking this type of info).

    1. Yep, you've got the right idea. Smoke filters the light and can give an eerie look.

  4. Looks & Smells like smoke outside here in Nampa Wondering if its coming from any new fires started around the area or from the new Calif Fires?

  5. I'm not seeing any new local fires being reported on the dispatch pages yet so I would guess smoke from California - there was a lot of growth on the Dixie fire in the last 24 hours (the California Dixie fire).
