Mostly clear again today with local impacts in Coeur d'Alene, Orofino, and Washington County

Today is looking a lot like yesterday. Air quality yesterday was in the good to moderate range across the state and is forecast to continue in the good to moderate range today.

The image below show the fires burning in Idaho and smoke trapped in valleys and canyons in central and southwestern Idaho this morning. Outside of the local impacts in the vicinity of these wildfires, smoke impacts will be light again for most areas in Idaho as northerly flow will continue to bring clear air from Canada and keep us from being impacted by the many fires burning in Washington, Oregon, and California. The greatest chance for higher impacts will be near fires burning north of Coeur d'Alene, near Orofino, and in Washington County. Expect some of this smoke to drain into nearby valleys and canyons again this evening degraded air quality through the night.

GOES-17 Visible “True Color” satellite image from 8:51 AM MDT indicates multiple plumes from Idaho wildfires across the state and some trapped smoke in valleys and canyons in the vicinity of these fires.
