The Panhandle will see some
of the greatest smoke impacts today and this evening the area will be heavily
impacted as smoke settles within the Purcell Trench down into Coeur d’Alene. Meanwhile,
central Idaho should see continued improvements today. But don’t go planning
your picnic yet, central Idaho, because tomorrow afternoon looks to
deteriorate.
Lots of smoke impacts
expected today across the Treasure Valley and east to the Wyoming border. Today’s
smoke is coming from the southwest. The western portion of southern Idaho will
get it worse than the eastern portion – little improvement expected in the west
but slight improvements expected in the east. The Southeast Highlands are
expected to get some relief today thanks to some thunderstorm activity. Weiser
will see local impacts this evening. Smoke will also drain into the Upper Snake
River Plain via the Big and Little Wood drainages and the Arco desert. Any
leftover smoke up in the air will settle back down as the sun sets. And to make
up for today’s smoky haze, Mother Nature says that southwestern Idaho may see
marginal improvements tomorrow. Don’t say she never gave you anything.
This image shows plenty of smoke over southern
Idaho within the Snake River Plain, and locally opaque conditions over the
Panhandle while central Idaho had relatively clear conditions.
