Smoke impacts today are expected to be greatest over the
Panhandle and south to the Grangeville area with lesser impacts over south-central
and eastern Idaho. Smoke over the Central Idaho Mountains will track east, but
should miss Salmon this afternoon and stay to the south. Smoke should lift during
the late afternoon before settling again in the evening. Smoke looks to have
impacts from the South Fork of the Salmon and east into the Upper Middle
Salmon, the Middle Salmon, the Upper Salmon, Pahsimeroi, and Lemhi into the
Upper Snake. This evening, expect smoke to drain into the Upper Snake via the
Pahsimeroi and to a lesser extent down the Lemhi and Birch drainages and east
to Island Park. There looks to be local nighttime impacts in the vicinity of
McCall. The Panhandle will also be heavily impacted this evening with smoke
settling within the Purcell Trench down into Spokane and again into the
Clearwater.
A
clear, narrow boundary of smoky/non smoky air is evident from the southwest to
the Lemhi Valley. High concentrations of smoke are visible within the valleys
of northern Idaho into Canada. This corresponds to the highest readings
across the state yesterday.
